On a regular basis, women’s ministry leaders ask for training ideas and resources for their team.
Have you felt the nudge or call from God to start or rebuild a women’s ministry at your church? Are you wondering how to get started or what to do next?

How would you describe your women’s ministry team? Grab a pen and make a quick list. Be as honest as you can. What words did you use?

In addition to serving on three different women’s ministry teams in three different churches, I’ve had the privilege to be a part of numerous teams. Some team leaders were strong, others struggled.

I need to apologize, the list that follows is probably going to come across a bit critical. You may view it as a list of complaints. I’ve thought about trying to re-write the whole piece from a positive angle. “10 Things I Love about Well-Run Team Meetings” or something like that.

Over the last 15+ years, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in five women’s ministries in five different churches. Everywhere I’ve served and even in the places where I haven’t, I’ve seen this women’s ministry mistake committed over and over again. And I’m not just throwing stones, I’m 100% guilty of committing it myself.

I tried to stifle my sigh and mask my aggravation when Sally (not her real name) once again took over the conversation in our Bible study. While Sally often had great insight and stories to share, week after week after week she had dominated our Bible study group conversation.

Last summer I joined the women’s ministry team at our (new to us) church. I asked a lot of questions at that first meeting. How do I submit a receipt? When do I need to get my publicity submitted for the next church newsletter?

Forgive me if this comes across as a little blunt or bossy, but I believe you need to set up a separate Retreat Planning Team.
