I like jewelry.  A lot.

So when the opportunity to create a custom handmade piece of jewelry that would support women who are working to overcome difficult circumstances landed in my inbox I didn’t hesitate.

Today I want to share a resource with you for beautiful products made by women locally and globally who have overcome challenges ranging from prostitution to addiction to a lack of opportunity.

As sisters in Christ we have the opportunity to lift up other sisters and support their efforts to support themselves through purchasing products from companies that help women find a way out of difficult circumstances.

I want to introduce you to FASHIONABLE.

FASHIONABLE started working in Ethiopia 5 years ago, providing weaving jobs for women who needed a new choice and a new opportunity.  They quickly expanded to working with leather partners in Africa as well.  Then, just this summer, they expanded their impact to working with women in the US to make jewelry.

They believe their roles is to invest in a woman, and that when she is empowered with work to do, she not only experiences the joy and satisfaction of developing a skill, she also creates change in those around her.  They now work with women both locally and globally who have overcome challenges ranging from prostitution to addiction to homelessness to a lack of opportunity.

The newest feature they just launched is called customizABLE — where you can actually design your own necklaces and ring stack.  And then the women they’ve hired will create your unique piece!

After much debate I decided to design a necklace.

I chose to make the 3 layer rosary. I got to pick my chain color, rosary color, and pendant stone color. I was really tempted to create a custom ring stack. The stamped necklaces were tempting too. But, alas, I could only chose one. My necklace is in the photo at top of the page. I love it!

If jewelry is not your thing, FASHIONABLE also sells leather wallets, totes, and pouches, scarves, home goods, and other items.

Each hand-made product from FASHIONABLE comes with a tag that tells the story of the women they work with, and has a specific name attached to it, as a reminder of how your purchase is creating jobs for them.  With the Christmas just around the corner, I’d bet there’s someone on your list who would appreciate a handmade gift from FASHIONABLE.

If a product at FASHIONABLE catches your eye, I’d love for you to use to click through my referral link. Thank you!

Sorry – Giveaway is over! FASHIONABLE has graciously offered to give one of you the opportunity to create your own custom piece of jewelry! What a great Christmas gift for yourself or someone else!

  10. Thanks for the info and the giveaway! Women At Risk (WAR) is another group that does this. They help rescue women and girls all around the world (including here in the US) from slavery and give them job training in their safehouses. You can buy jewelry, clothing, etc directly from their website or have a WAR party, where they ship product to you, people buy what they like, and you send the remainder back to them (and the monies for what was sold of course!) Every $250 raised supports someone in a safe house for a month. (Sorry for the deluge of info- I’m thinking of doing a party for my women’s ministry so it’s all fresh in my mind lol.)

  11. LOVE this! I love when we can truly help people change their lives. What an amazing ministry. Thank you for sharing this. I’d definitely make a necklace!
