I’m a read-the-book-before-the-movie kind of girl and as it would be, that’s what happened with Old Fashioned.
I picked up the book for my Kindle awhile back and immediately read it. I really wanted to see the movie in the theater with my husband, but by the time I tried to arrange a date the show times didn’t work with our schedule.
So a couple of months later when the opportunity arose for me to review the movie, book, and devotional for you all I jumped at the opportunity. There may, or may not have been, a small amount of begging on my part.
Old Fashioned, the book, is actually a novelization of the motion picture. A fact I did not know when I read the book. Not only is there more detail to the story, but you’re given a glimpse of more details from the character’s pasts a bit sooner than you are in the movie.
Old Fashioned, the book, would be a fantastic book club selection. It’s also perfect to take along to the beach or give as a gift!
The 40 day devotional is titled, The Old Fashioned Way: Reclaiming the Lost Art of Romance, and is also based on the screenplay. The Old Fashioned Way, along with the book or movie, would make for a really interesting college/singles small group study. Most of the daily readings conclude with questions that a facilitator could easily use to guide the group discussion.
The Ten Commandments for the Old Fashioned Way (#1 – Thou shalt not stay out after eleven with a person of the opposite sex, for nothing good happens.) and the Conversation Starters, both in the Appendix, are certain to promote a lively group discussion.
The goal of The Old Fashioned Way “is to inspire and create a hope and longing for us to be our best selves, regardless of how fractured we are…the old fashioned way start with how we treat others – before we even begin with romance.”
Sorry! Contest is over.
One lucky reader will win all 3 Old Fashioned resources!! The DVD, the novel, and the 40 day devotional. To enter into the drawing, please share in the comments at least one “old fashioned way” that makes your heart skip a beat. (Mine would be my husband opening my car door for me and getting flowers for no reason.) The winner will be selected on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 10 AM EST. Be sure to get your entry (comment) in before then.
